Midtown Medical Center is a modern, 413-bed tertiary care facility that provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services. Over its 150 year history, Midtown Medical Center has emerged as a leading provider of medical care in the West Central Georgia region surrounding Columbus. Midtown Medical Center is operated as part of the Columbus Regional Healthcare System. Because of its affiliation, many health care resources are available to rural areas surrounding Columbus.

In addition to Midtown Medical Center, the Regional system is comprised of several primary not-for-profit community service corporations that include ambulatory care facilities, a foundation, the John B. Amos Cancer Center and a growing physician network. As the only physician training program, our Family Medicine residents receive tremendous hands-on experiences.. Our dually accredited Family Medicine residency program received AOA approval in 2009.

Through the opportunities created by a diverse regional health care system, Midtown Medical Center has developed into one of the best equipped, staffed and administered hospitals in the Southeast. Many services are offered here that are provided nowhere else in the region:

Floyd Medical Center (Floyd) is a modern, 304-bed full service, acute care hospital and regional referral center, providing a full array of medical services and the latest technology to support centers of excellence. The Floyd family of health care services has been responding to the health care needs of Rome and surrounding communities in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama for over 60 years. Floyd is the County’s largest employer with over 2,500 staff members. More than 300 physicians cover more than 40 medical specialties, providing individualized personal attention to more than 200,000 patients each year.

Known throughout the 16-county area as the leader in emergency and trauma care, Floyd is a state-designated Level II Trauma Center. As the only hospital in Floyd County providing maternity services, Floyd offers the latest in family-centered care in the homelike setting of the labor, delivery, and recovery suites where more than 3,000 babies are born each year. Our

Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only one of its kind in Northwest Georgia. The

Postgraduate Program

This dually-accredited program has nine AOA approved positions and a total of twenty-four residency training positions. There are no competing residencies in this friendly, supportive atmosphere, which means you see it all and you do it all. The residents are exposed to the full spectrum of family medicine through our diverse patient population. The electives offer our residents the opportunity to explore a variety of subspecialties.

Located in rural western Palm Beach County, 70 bed Lakeside Medical Center offers a Family Medicine residency program based in a community setting. Lakeside offers the following services:

Family Medicine residents will receive continuity of care experience at several community clinic locations including the Lakeside Medical Center physician practices, Brumback Center and the Florida Community Health Centers.

The Family Medicine Residency Program, is a three year (PGY-1 to PGY-3) program in Family Medicine. The application process is through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Sports Medicine Fellowship Program Director: Alessandra Posey, D.O.

The Psychiatry Residency is a four-year program and is the first corrections-based osteopathic psychiatry residency program in the nation. To meet the mental health needs of all offenders, they have several levels of care, including outpatient and four levels of inpatient care: crisis stabilization, transitional care, infirmary care and the Correctional Mental Health Institute (court-ordered inpatient treatment). The curriculum also allows for external rotations in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as substance abuse treatment.

The Correctional Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program leading to board eligibility for AOA board certification in Correctional Medicine The fellowship is open to any physician (M.D. or D.O.) either currently in correctional medicine or desiring to be in correctional medicine. The fellowship training includes inpatient/outpatient supervised clinical experience in acute and chronic settings in jails/prisons, medicolegal experiences and responsibilities, quality management and review, and mortality review management and control.

The Sports Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program that leads to a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in sports medicine by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Candidates for this fellowship/subspecialty residency may enter after completion of an AOA approved residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Certification is granted through the primary certifying board. This is a dynamic fellowship/subspecialty residency that provides an outpatient education in PM&R, OMM and Orthopedic Surgery. Rotations are also completed in Pediatrics, the Differently Abled Athlete, and Internal Medicine. Time is also allotted to concentrate on other Sports Medicine related areas in which a fellow would like to focus. Fellows will participate in an active Sports Medicine outpatient clinic at NSU and provide medical coverage for NSU NCAA Division II sports and North Broward High School District sports. They will also provide event coverage for various teams and tournaments throughout the year. Fellows will also have exposure to professional and semi-professional athletic teams, Special Olympics, and mass events.

Palmetto General Hospital is a 360-bed full service acute-care facility in Hialeah (greater Miami) providing a broad range of services that includes medical/surgical, cardiac catheterization, cardiopulmonary, pediatrics, obstetrics, outpatient surgery, psychiatric, lithotripsy, and radiation therapy. Specialty units include neonatal intensive care, coronary care, intensive care, and surgical intensive care. Treatment centers include the Wound Management Center and the Oncology Treatment Center. St. Vincent's Medical Center is a 528-bed acute care community hospital on the banks of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, FL. The Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1972 as an ACGME accredited program, and has over 327 graduates. While maintaining our ACGME accreditation, we received AOA accreditation of the Family Medicine Residency in 2006.

There are 15 full-time Faculty in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Behavioral Science. Completed in October 2004, the 30,000 square foot Family Medicine Center houses the residency program where both faculty and residents provide care to their own panel of patients. Laboratory, radiology and surgical facilities, 40 patient exam rooms, conference rooms, along with faculty and resident offices are designed for excellence in patient care and resident education.
